What is asynchronous programming?

Asynchronous programming is a programming paradigm that allows tasks to be executed independently of the main program flow. In traditional synchronous programming, tasks are executed sequentially, one after the other. This can lead to inefficiencies, as the program has to wait for each task to complete before moving on to the next one. Asynchronous programming, on the other hand, allows tasks to be executed concurrently, allowing the program to continue running while waiting for tasks to complete.

In .NET, asynchronous programming is achieved using the Task-based asynchronous pattern.
